Meet Julia and the Team - Just Cuts

Tell us about your salon:
Just Cuts is a well known Australian brand which was founded 30 years ago. Just Cuts Ocean Keys has been in the centre for 5 years and is located close to the Information Desk. I have an amazing team of fully qualified experienced stylists who live locally. They are passionate about their trade and ensure their clients leave feeling great. We specialise in all cutting techniques and styles for men, women and children of any age and work on a no appointment, no request system which suits our clients busy lifestyles.

What is your position at Just Cuts and how long have you been with the salon?
I am the Salon Owner and also a stylist. I have owned Just Cuts Ocean Keys for 3 1/2 years but have worked for Just Cuts for over 10 years.
What is the most popular hair cut or style right now?
For women short to medium length styles that show off the hairs natural texture that can be simply styled for that beachy waved finish.

For men, this year has started to move away from the skin fade, in favour of longer length through the top and sides, again easily styled and slightly less 'neat' than previously worn. We have also seen the return of the classic Buzz Cut.

There have been some very interesting home isolation hair cuts lately coming in for us to fix up!
What is the most unusual or funny request you have had from a customer?
We have had clients bring in pictures of the animated Japanese Anime characters. Working from a 2D picture can be challenging but through the consultation we established the look is very sharp with pointy edges we always adapt the look to the clients hair texture, face shape and lifestyle.
How long have you been in the hairdressing industry and what inspired you to pursue this career?
I studied hairdressing in the UK 30 years ago. Always being told off at school for talking too much along with being creative, hairdressing was something that complemented these traits very well.

When you’re not at the salon, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I'm a mum to my two girls and also have a new puppy which keeps me busy outside of the salon. I also like the gym for some time out and for keeping sane.

What makes Ocean Keys Shopping Centre  a great part of the community?
Ocean Keys is also my local shopping centre, and although it has grown in size through the years it's still maintained its friendly community feel. As a local small business owner its also been great to build relationships with other fellow small business owners within the centre making it a friendly centre to work in. Recently we had the opportunity to partner up with both Ocean Keys and The Lukemia Foundation and take part in the Worlds Greatest Shave where on the day we helped raise over $6k.
